The cryptocurrency market remains in focus as Bitcoin stages a recovery despite significant ETF outflows, security concerns, and growing regulatory scrutiny. While technical indicators suggest a cautiously bullish outlook, weakening momentum raises questions about the sustainability of recent gains. Meanwhile, tighter stablecoin regulations in Europe, Thailand’s approval of crypto ETFs, and renewed speculation over Strategy’s Bitcoin purchases continue to shape market sentiment. Investors now turn their attention to key technical levels and upcoming US inflation data for clues on Bitcoin’s next move.
US spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs have recorded nearly $1 billion in combined net outflows in October, signaling weakening investor confidence. Bitcoin ETFs saw $244.1 million in withdrawals on Thursday, following a $484.9 million outflow on Wednesday, the largest since June 25. Meanwhile, Ether ETFs extended their losing streak to eight consecutive sessions, shedding $641.3 million. October outflows reached $407.4 million for Bitcoin ETFs and $578.9 million for Ether ETFs, totaling $986.3 million. The sell-off coincided with Bitcoin dropping to $80,427 before recovering slightly. Analysts suggest stronger trading volumes and renewed ETF inflows are needed to support Bitcoin’s recovery.
Bitcoin stabilized near $83,000, recovering from Thursday’s low of $80,350 despite reports of funds being stolen from Ledger hardware wallet users. BTC briefly reclaimed $83,000 as buyers returned, while 24-hour crypto liquidations exceeded $1 billion. Ledger acknowledged the theft reports, linking them to a Southeast Asian reseller and advising affected users to secure their assets. Meanwhile, Bitcoin traders focused on the crucial $82,500 support level and resistance near $84,000. Analysts expect Bitcoin to trade between $81,300 and $86,500 ahead of the October 14 US inflation report, which could trigger fresh market volatility.
Following Thursday’s decline to a three-week low of $80,386.13, BTCUSD staged a strong recovery, gaining more than 4.5% to trade at $84,175.20 at the time of writing.
From a technical perspective, Bitcoin continues to trade above both the 20- and 50-period Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs), with both indicators maintaining an upward trajectory. This alignment suggests that the underlying trend remains bullish, despite recent market volatility.
Momentum indicators broadly support this positive outlook. The Momentum Oscillator remains above its 100 baseline, while the Relative Strength Index (RSI) holds above the neutral 50 mark, suggesting that buying pressure continues to outweigh selling interest.
Nevertheless, signs of caution are emerging. Negative divergence between price action and momentum indicators points to a potential loss of upward momentum, raising the possibility of a near-term pullback. Unless buyers regain sufficient strength to challenge recent highs, the market could become increasingly vulnerable to corrective pressure.
On the upside, a decisive break above the $87,388.29 resistance level would strengthen the bullish scenario and potentially pave the way for further gains toward $90,077.23, followed by $91,655.96 and $93,161.63.
Conversely, a sustained decline below $83,470.54 would undermine the prevailing bullish structure and signal an increased risk of further losses. In such a scenario, initial support is located at $80,386.13, with subsequent downside targets at $74,960.82 and $73,341.56.
Overall, Bitcoin’s technical outlook remains cautiously bullish, although weakening momentum suggests that buyers may face growing challenges in extending the recovery.
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has given EU crypto firms until January 8, 2027, to stop providing services involving stablecoins that do not comply with the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulations. The restrictions cover trading, custody, transfers, investment advice, and portfolio management. Firms must prevent customers from purchasing or increasing holdings of non-compliant stablecoins while temporarily allowing withdrawals, exchanges, and sales of existing assets. National regulators may impose earlier deadlines to ensure compliance. The new guidance strengthens EU oversight of stablecoins, aiming to improve investor protection, reduce regulatory risks, and promote a safer, more transparent cryptocurrency market.
Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission has finalized regulations allowing Bitcoin and Ether ETFs to trade exclusively on the Stock Exchange of Thailand starting October 16, 2026. The move offers investors a regulated way to access cryptocurrencies through traditional brokerage accounts without managing digital wallets. Mutual and private funds will also be permitted to invest in locally established crypto ETFs. However, strict safeguards include regulated custody, mandatory risk disclosures, and a ban on margin lending. ETFs must passively track a single cryptocurrency, maintaining at least 80% exposure. Industry experts believe competitive fees, accurate price tracking, and investor education will determine their success.
Strategy Chairman Michael Saylor hinted at further Bitcoin purchases with a Sunday post stating, “There’s always room for more orange.” However, investors may need to wait until Tuesday for official confirmation due to the Columbus Day holiday. Strategy ended September prioritizing preferred stock buybacks, purchasing $176.3 million worth of STRC shares compared with just $28.7 million in Bitcoin, bringing its holdings to 848,000 BTC. Despite raising $5.41 billion through common stock sales in the third quarter, only 9.5% was allocated directly to Bitcoin purchases. Analysts suggest Strategy may be strengthening its cash reserves to fund future Bitcoin acquisitions.
Bitcoin’s recovery highlights underlying market resilience, although substantial ETF outflows, security concerns, and weakening momentum continue to pose near-term risks. While the broader technical outlook remains cautiously bullish, a sustained move above key resistance levels is needed to reinforce buying confidence. Meanwhile, regulatory developments and potential institutional Bitcoin purchases could influence longer-term sentiment. With upcoming US inflation data likely to shape market direction, investors should remain attentive to key support and resistance levels as volatility persists.
